How I got into Line dancing
I returned from University in June 2006 after gaining a degree in Psychology & Criminology. I went back to swimming and life saving with my Dad which is something I've done most of my life (I am also a qualified swimming instructor) but realised I wasn't doing anything with my mum. Mum's interest was line dancing so after a while I decided to go along and give it a try.
February 2007 saw me start work as a custody officer which although it was shift work it gave me a regular working pattern which enabled me to start attending line dance classes regularly. It wasn't long until 1 class turned into 2 which turned into 3 ..... I was loving it. August bank holiday 2007 I went to Great Birchwood for the first time and this was the point where I became totally hooked and a love affair of country music and line dancing bloomed.
In 2012 the lady who's classes I was attending sadly had a fatal heart attack. It was at this point was asked by her daughter if I could take over the classes as from the following week. The rest as they say is history - I was scared, nervous … well out right petrified to be honest but I would not change a thing.
I've now been teaching for 8 years and I love it, I have classes 4 days/nights a week, we have a monthly Saturday social, I host 12 hour days of dance, weekenders and festivals. I constantly learn more and more about our wonderful community and feel incredibly fortunate to be located in Blackpool which hosts the Crystal Boot Awards and World Dance Masters weekends annually - 2 of the biggest and most prestigious weekends for line dancers. If you've never been I highly recommend going :-)
